Giraffes' colourful vision

Like humans, baboons and monkeys, giraffes have the ability to see in colour. Their vision is trichromatic, meaning they can see three primary colours: red, green and blue (the main colours of Tsavo, as you can see in the photo ;-)). This ability allows them to distinguish the different shades of their environment, which is essential for spotting ripe leaves and fruit and keeping an eye out for predators.
